Habitats & Ecosystems

A habitat is an ecological and natural area that plants, animals or organism have come to live in. It is the home of a high biodiversity and many of them reaching thousands of species. The thing makes a habitat what it is though is an ecosystem which is a community of living organisms, such as plants or animals, that live together with nonliving organisms, such as air or soil. An ecosystem also provides energy, water, nitrogen and other essentials that will sustain life.

Despite being a habitat being an ecological area that organisms can live in they just can’t move in and live there. In order for animals to live in a habitat they must adapt to it. Animals have adapted to many types of habitats with some places being the hot desert and other places being the cold Antarctic.

A habitat is not the only dangerous one to outsiders but is sometimes endangered by invasive species. Invasive species are species of plants, animals or organisms that are not native to the habitat and due to it being a foreign species it is hard to cope with. Some invasive species are so dangerous they affect even the ecosystem of the habitat.

A habitat and ecosystem’s outcome depends on how much other things influence them. Sometimes the structure of an ecosystem will greatly depend on external forces like the climate of the habitat and other times it will depend on internal forces such as invasive species. Whether they are influenced or not by such forces one thing does stand that habitats need to be conserved and it is a job for us to do. If you feel like helping protect a habitat then join us as members or donate to Adopt a Habitat and help a habitat.
