Cairns Birdwing

The Cairns Birdwing lives within northeastern Australia, and is Australia's largest endemic butterfly species. The male butterfly have a predominately black upper wing with emerald green flashes, while the female lacks the green coloring.

The Cairns Birdwing's preferred habitat is rain forest though the species will breed readily in a home garden if the correct larval host plants are grown.

Theraphosa

Theraphosa are a genus of tarantula spiders of South America. In particular, the Theraphosa blondi is considered to be the second largest spider int he world. The Theraphosa blondi’s native habitat is rain forest in northern South America. They are a deep-borrowing species, found commonly in marshy or swampy areas, usually living in burrows that they have dug or which have been abandoned by burrowing creatures.

Theraphosa’s diet consists of insects and other invertebrates. In the wild, larger species of tarantula have been feeding on rodents, frogs, lizards, bats, and even venomous snakes. While in captivity, the Theraphosa's diet consists of mainly cockroaches.

Migratory Locust

The migratory locust is the most widespread locust species. The locust live throughout Afria, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. They are highly mobile, and usually fly with the wind at a speed of 15-20 km/h and swarms can travel 50-130 km or more in a day.

An adult locust can consume its own weight (about 2 grams) in fresh food per day. For every million locusts, one tone of food is eaten. Migratory locust can eat plants of many families and grasses.

False Garden Mantis

The False Garden Mantis is one of the most common species of mantis in Australia. The mantis is either green or brown and is not aggressive to humans. Male false garden mantis are long winged and not as big as the female, however females cannot fly because they are short winged.

The Botany Bay Cockroach is an insect found in south eastern Australia.

Exatostoma Tiaratum

Exatostoma Tiaratum is a large species of stick insect native to Queensland and New South Wales. Females are covered with thorn-like spikes for defense and camouflage. Their wings are too small for flying, especially when she is pregnant. Males are smaller and thinner, and they lack the thorny growths except for spikes around their heads. They have long wings and are good flyers who readily take to the air if disturbed or in search of females.

The Exatostoma Tiaratum are vegetarians. They eat bayberry, bramble, eucalyptus (their natural food in Australia), raspberry, and salmon berries.
